This 20/25 HP with chassis GAF28 was sold for storage on November 2, 1934 to Pass + Joyce Ltd. in London. In January the chassis was delivered to James Young to have a saloon with separation screen built on it. The first owner became Lord Trent (John Campbell Boot), the second Baron Trent of Boots Chemists, who bought the car in February 1935. Lord Trent held it for more than 20 years.
In the 1990s, the 20/25 HP GAF28 was in the United States and was owned by Michael & Alexandra Pifer from Ohio. In April 1995 they sold the car to Mr Fred Kreeft from Assendelft, who had it shipped to the Netherlands. He sold it in 2007 to Mr Max Kornmann from Arnhem, who owned it until 2014.
The Rolls-Royce 20/25 HP succeeded the 20 HP as the "small" Rolls-Royce. Both models were aimed at the "owner driver", but in practice a lot were also sold to customers with drivers.
The six-cylinder in-line head valve engine of the 20/25 HP was the same as that used in the 20HP. The engine capacity was increased to 3669 cc by increasing the bore from 76 mm to 82 mm, while maintaining the stroke of 114 mm. A single Rolls-Royce carburetor and both ignition coil and magnet ignition were used. The four-speed manual gearbox was attached to the engine and was traditionally operated with the right hand. From 1932 there were synchromeshes on the third and fourth gears.
The chassis had a rigid front and rear axle with semi-elliptical springs and servo-assisted brakes on all four wheels. Separate rear brakes were fitted for the parking brake. The 20/25 HP has vertical louvres in the radiator grille, the angle of which can be controlled manually from the dashboard; On later models, the louvres are automatically controlled with a calorat.
This 20/25 HP James Young is always kept in good condition and can go on the road. Various restoration work has been carried out in recent years. For example, he got a new stainless steel exhaust, the engine was overhauled and fitted with a new cylinder head, and the starter motor was replaced. Body, leather and wood are in good condition. The toolbox is complete and new wheel plates were installed in 2015.
This beautiful James Young comes with an extensive amount of historical documents.
